It makes perfect sense that one of the most sought after DJs in the country started it all with impromptu concerts in his living room. From there Steve Aoki’s ear for music and his ability to drop party-rocking beats quickly had him championing dance floors night after night. Hit fast forward and these days Steve is busy providing LA’s indie soundtrack showcasing the hippest bands at his wildly popular Tuesday night at Cinespace, or dropping the biggest party hits at Hollywood’s LAX and NYC’s Marquee. And all this while still managing to run one of the most respected indie labels in the country—Dim Mak. When you realize Dim Mak was founded with amazing bands such as The Kills, Pretty Girls Make Graves, The Von Bondies and is currently rocking with the likes of Bloc Party, The Rakes, Moving Units, Scanners, Pony Up, and Whitey, it’s pretty obvious Steve’s still got his ears to the streets, speakers, turntables, and anything else that’s rumbling his way.
