KR3W team rider Erik Ellington found himself on the cover of this month’s TransWorld SKATEboarding with an unusual trick—a van roof ride gap out to noseslide. KR3W sat down with Erik today to get the scoop on how this curious cover shot all went down.
Where did the idea for your latest cover shot come from?
I was driving by to skate another spot and looked over and saw it. I thought, “It’s too bad that thing doesn’t have run up”.
Was it spontaneous or was it something you planned?
A little bit of both. As soon as I saw it, I pulled over and stood on my truck to see if it was possible. Then I had to get the wood together and shit. I didn’t go back for about a month.
Who built the surface on the top of the van? Was it just one van or
several?
Justin Roy from Bakerboys built it. We ended up using both the Baker and Deathwish vans for the run way.
Did you do any tricks on it besides the nose slide or was it a one
hitter quitter?
[laughs] I was only good enough to nose slide it.
Have you used vehicle assists for tricks before?
Not until this.
